Jeff Bezos had a famous strategy in Amazon called “Get big fast“ 🏆

The idea is simple: Scale before your competitors do, because the biggest player takes the whole market. So grow as fast as humanly possible. Raise money, burn cash, expand like crazy. Whoever gets big first wins.

Great advice if you have unlimited money.

But here’s what I’ve learned after 10+ years in marketing: there’s a shortcut.

You don’t have to actually be big to win. You just have to look big.

A few years ago, someone at Gong’s annual conference asked their CMO Udi Ledergor how many employees the company had. The guest guessed around 1,000.

Gong had fewer than 200 people at the time.

The guest wasn’t an idiot. Gong just looked massive. Their billboards kept showing up on LinkedIn, their brand was everywhere at conferences, and most of all - they had that “🥇market leader energy🥇” that makes you assume a company has been around forever.

I’ve been obsessed with this stuff for years:

How did Gong pull it off? How did Bumble make college students think they were as big as Instagram when they were literally THREE WEEKS old? How did Torq become the most recognizable brand in their category within two years?

I’ve collected these tactics from Udi Ledergor (Gong), Whitney Wolfe Herd (Bumble), Don Jeter (Torq), and from things we’ve done at Wiz.

What I learned is mind-blowing:

You can’t fake being big forever, but you can fake it long enough for it to become true. This is the closest thing I’ve found to a “marketing cheat code” - and now it’s yours. ✅

I’m going to teach you how to look like a #1 market leader (before you actually are one).
