Super interesting! Great read. I think this concept evolved a bit over the years into what it is today. I wonder if there are any live examples of those advergames.
Yep! New platforms, and cultural sensibilities evolve approaches for branded game design. Here is an example from 7 UP: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cool_Spot
Brilliant. I wonder though from a development perspective - do you have a dedicated marketing-software-engineers? How do you prioritize such projects as part of the roadmap?
With an MBA in Marketing, I believe this newsletter worth a nice $200K. The first & main reason to me to sign up for Substack, was to subscribe for MarketingIdeas. Well done team.
I remember playing with the FT's ransomware game (https://ig.ft.com/ransomware-game/) during my time in cyber - it's a great example of how these games can educate on complex topics.
There's huge potential here for engagement, marketing, and thought leadership through interactive learning. It's particularly effective in fields like cybersecurity, where scenario simulation is valuable.
AI might reduce development costs, leading to more creative implementations across industries. It'll be interesting to see how companies measure impact on engagement, brand awareness, and learning outcomes.
Absolutely! But for the record, integrating brand messages into games is not new. It was super hot during the '90s when they were called 'adbvergames.' It so happens I wrote my master's thesis about this exact topic. You can see am article I published on dmnews back then: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QHjPsGcaA5wQqewXAjgAXx9_-qKfooxRpJxMUtNfnqI/edit#heading=h.jn6bby7sayzn

LInkedin should of made a game based on companies and industry. Doesnt sound as fun but if they pulled it off I think it would be revolutionary.
100% agreed, could go insanely viral
I'm still shocked by how addictive the LinkedIn games are. It was the last app I expected to use for Gaming and yet I come back to it every day.
Nice! How long did it take for you guys to put together the WizOlympics?
Thanks! We work on a lot of projects in parallel, so it's difficult about to pinpoint exactly, but I'd say 2-3 weeks

We have dedicated front-end engineers (for web projects), but this project also involved an expert freelancer who helped. Thanks Anton!

Fantastic example! Thanks Rohan 🙏
Great to see you used our game framework (Phaser) to create the WizOlympics :)
Google knew it all along.. They kept you glued to the Chrome even when the internet was off.
"Play your favorite game for 10 minutes. You know, for ״research״ "
Which games did you play to get ideas for WizOlympics? ;)
Chrome's offline dino game was our inspiration :)
